Event Summary 2/15/25

 

At our First Annual Brunch: Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Event, we brought together a powerful group of attendees to discuss the critical issues of domestic violence awareness and prevention, with a special focus on teen dating. Teens from Charleston, Hollywood, Adams Run, Parker's Ferry, Ravenel, and Edisto Island joined us for a meaningful day of learning and reflection. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the volunteers whose dedication made this event possible.

One of the key highlights of the event was the opportunity for teen attendees to explore the difference between loving relationships and healthy relationships. Our guest speakers shared valuable insights on how to identify the signs of unhealthy dynamics in relationships, teaching teens how to recognize red flags and the importance of emotional intelligence in building respectful, supportive connections.

Participants learned that love doesn’t equate to control, manipulation, or disrespect—true love means mutual care, trust, and understanding. By focusing on healthy relationship habits, the event helped empower teens to understand what they deserve in their relationships and how to avoid harmful situations.

Additionally, the event also featured powerful stories from family members of survivors, showing the long-lasting effects of abuse and highlighting that emotional abuse is just as damaging as physical abuse. Teens were encouraged to trust their instincts, ask for help when needed, and speak up for themselves and others.

Overall, the event was a success, with meaningful discussions that will continue to resonate in our community. We are grateful to everyone who attended, and to the volunteers whose support made it all possible. Together, we can continue to empower young people with the knowledge and tools they need to build healthy, loving relationships.
